Now we know Nixon lied. A newfound cache of notes left by H. R. Haldeman, his closest aide, shows that Nixon directed his campaign’s efforts to scuttle the peace talks, which he feared could give his opponent, Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, an edge in the 1968 election. On Oct. 22, 1968, he ordered Haldeman to “monkey wrench” the initiative.

Johnson’s closest aides urged him to unmask Nixon’s actions. But on a Nov. 4 conference call, they concluded that they could not go public because, among other factors, they lacked the “absolute proof,” as Defense Secretary Clark Clifford put it, of Nixon’s direct involvement.

Most Republicans Think Colleges Are Bad for the Country. Why?

In the Pew Research Center’s study, distrust of colleges was strongest in the highest income bracket and the oldest age group, with approval levels of just 31 percent among respondents whose family income exceeds $75,000 a year and 27 percent among those older than 65.

Favor for higher education was highest among Republicans who are younger than 29 (52 percent) and those who have not completed a college degree (37 percent).

Only 6% of Consumers Would Pay $20 a Month For ESPN

I’m not a math expert, but if you’re paying $6 billion a year in rights fees and you only bring in $4 billion in subscriber revenue, that’s not good. Add on top of that that advertising, which represents around a quarter of ESPN’s revenue, would plummet as well. Hell, it’s already happening. ESPN had to make up for ratings shortfalls with this year’s playoffs.
